Nike’s announcement Monday it would make Colin Kaepernick the face of its “Just Do It” campaign sparked a firestorm on social media -- and literal fires, too.

Some social media users took to Twitter to showcase their frustrations. Videos and photos showed fans completely destroying their Nike-branded apparel, with some going as far as letting the gear go up in flames.

“First the @NFL forces me to choose between my favorite sport and my country,” Twitter user Sean Clancy wrote. “I chose country. Then @Nike forces me to choose between my favorite shoes and my country. Since when did the American Flag and the National Anthem become offensive?”

Clancy added a video of burning Nike sneakers to his tweet.

John Rich, of the country music band Big & Rich, also shared a photo of the band’s soundman’s cut-up Nike socks.

“Our Soundman just cut the Nike swoosh off his socks,” Rich wrote. “Former marine (sic). Get ready @Nike multiply that by the millions.”

Several other Twitter users joined in and showed how they were boycotting the brand.

Nike announced Kaepernick would be a part of the campaign along with other star athletes, including Serena Williams and Odell Beckham Jr.

“Believe in something, even if it means sacrificing everything. #JustDoIt,” Kaepernick, who has been with Nike since 2011 and hasn’t played a down of football since he failed to re-sign with the 49ers following the 2016 season, posted on Twitter.

Ex-CIA Director John Brennan and former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad joined a strangely diverse chorus of support for Kaepernick.

Brennan, CIA Director from 2013-2017, tweeted his support for the former quarterback-turned-social-justice-activist.

“Colin Kaepernick drew our collective attention to the problem of continued racial injustice in America,” Brennan wrote. “He did so not to disrespect our flag but to give meaning to the words of the preamble of our Constitution—‘in order to form a more perfect union.’ Well done, Colin, well done.”

Ahmadinejad, who has lambasted the U.S. repeatedly over the years and led Iran from 2005-2013, also came out in support of Kaepernick.

“The #NFL season will start this week, unfortunately once again @Kaepernick7 is not on a NFL roster. Even though he is one of the best Quarterbacks in the league,” he tweeted.

Kaepernick also received support from several athletes, including Philadelphia Eagles defensive lineman Chris Long and Miami Dolphins wide receiver Kenny Stills, who has followed Kaepernick in kneeling during the national anthem for the last two seasons.

Kaepernick began kneeling during the national anthem during a 2016 preseason game to protest perceived racial injustices against African-Americans. The movement since took off, garnering the attention-- and ire -- of President Trump, NFL owners, players and fans of the sport.

The University of Nevada alum has had one of the top selling jerseys in the NFL since he decided to kneel during the national anthem, according to Bleacher Report. He said in 2016 he would donate his jersey proceeds to charity.

Brilliant! So let's see, aside from those that actually own Nike, there's the rest of the morons that actually will go out and buy Nike shoes (probably over $100 a pair) and then burn them. So Nike gets the money and they burn the product. Simply amazing how people think. If this trend continues, Nike's revenue should soar (but alas, logic escapes these people that don't actually think about their actions, and let their emotions control their thoughts). You can't make this stuff up.

The stock market is the ultimate truth teller. How’d Nike do today?

Do you often get caught up in the day to day gyrations of the market?

Most intelligent people I know have long term horizons. Unless someone sold a stock lower than they bought it, there's no gain or loss (you do realize that, don't you?). Kind of like these people screaming about all the people that lost money during the financial crisis (even though they didn't sell their houses and they're now worth substanially more). I just think it's funny to look at people that actually paid Nike for their products (it's not like Nike is giving the money back to them) and destroying products they own. The only ones they're hurting are themselves as they will not have to buy another pair of shoes (regardless if it's from Nike or not). I'm sorry if that's just too logical for you. Why don't you check back in 5-10 years and see how that stock is doing.

You're going to judge Nike stock one day after this? What, are you a day trader? Let's see where it is six months from now before passing judgement.
